(Peterborough, NH, June 14, 2016) Summertime in New Hampshire is perfect time for taking in the natural wonders of the area and what better way of doing that than outdoor concerts in Depot Park centrally located at the historic, quintessential town of Peterborough? Celebrate summer evenings at the confluence of Contoocook and Nubanusit Rivers listening to great jazz under the open skies.
Thanks to Music Series Sponsors: Twelve Pine, Bellows-Nichols Insurance and Depot Square, each concert is free and open to the public, so bring your family and friends, relax after a long work week and enjoy the sounds of some past years favorites along with new attractions. Don’t forget your blanket, lawn chair and a picnic!
The Music Series begins July 8th with Los Sugar Kings, returning for a second year, from Boston. This quartet is known for their dynamic live performances with rich harmonies, intense musicianship and ability to transcend genre. Their sound pays respect to the traditions of Afro-Cuban Son, Rumba-Flamenca and Salsa, and drawing from influences of rock-reggae fusion repertoire. Last year, they had the audience on their feet and dancing, no matter what your age, this is a beat that will make you move!
July 15th brings back Trio Sphere, playing music of jazz legend Thelonious Monk. Playful, melodic and quirky, the trio creates an engaging interactive vibe with the audience. This year, the featured artists will be Tom Robinson on keyboards, Fender Rhodes and soprano saxophone Scott Kiefner on bass with Tim Gilmore on percussion. Toe tapping a must for this event!
One of our local bands, Dragonfly, is the featured band on July 31st. With Judy Blake on vocals and percussion, Ken Hamshaw on guitar and vocals, Danny Solomon on bass and Owen Landis on drums. Dragonfly covers an eclectic mix of classic and new Rock, Blues, Folk, Country and Bluegrass. Enjoy the funky grooves, rich vocals and stellar harmonies and do not forget your dancing shoes!
The finale night this year is reserved for Paul Klemperer & The New Hampshire Ensemble. Returning for the fourth year, and an audience favorite, Paul brings his saxophone from Austin, Texas, where he is active in the blues and jazz scene. Paul’s NH roots enable him to be part of our summer program and we are thrilled to have him back. With him on bass is Max Nunnemaker, Spencer Peery on guitar, Joe Bartlett on drums and Gordon Peery on keyboard. This concert is one not to missed and Paul always leaves us craving more……….
Weather permitting, concerts are in Depot Park, next to Depot Square at 11 School Street, Peterborough, NH. On rain days, concerts will be at Twelve Pine, 11 School Street, Peterborough, NH 03458
